Additional benefits include quick establishment of successful nursing and quicker healing for mother. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about midwifery and home birth.

Q. WHAT DOES “CPM” MEAN?

A. The credential CPM stands for Certified Professional Midwife and is administered by the North American Registry of Midwives.

Q. WHO MAY I HAVE AT THE BIRTH?

A. One of the best things about having a home birth is being in control of your environment. You are welcome to invite whomever you would like to attend your birth.

Q. WHO WILL ATTEND MY BIRTH?

A. There will be two qualified midwives, and sometimes an advanced student at each birth.  You will know ahead of time who will be at your birth and have the opportunity to meet them.

Q. MAY I HAVE A WATERBIRTH?

A. Yes, waterbirth is an option for mothers.  Many women choose to have birth tubs for comfort during labor, regardless of whether they plan to have the baby in or out of the water.

Q. DOES INSURANCE COVER MIDWIFERY CARE?

A. You should check with your insurance provider. Often, insurance companies will cover midwifery services, but if not we can set up a payment plan. Sisters Midwifery accepts cash, check and credit card payments.

Q. WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO GET AN ULTRASOUND EXAM AND SONOGRAM OF MY BABY?

A. Yes. We work with Dr. Berry to schedule those appointments. We can also help you find other healthcare providers within your insurance network. You may choose to have an ultrasound between 18 to 20 weeks to determine the gender of your baby.
